The Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV created the famous Land Book in the year 1375 to make the administration ofhis dominion more efficient and of course to make the collection of tax better. As so many villages in the state of Brandenburg, Grningen was also recorded here first. The spelling of the village name changed during the centuries several times: Grenigen, Grenigyn, Grenyngen, Greninghen, Grenygen.

As the whole of the Havelland, the village was also suffering under the pillaging by the Swedes 1675. Oldest building is the church from the 16th-century. Here is alsoa baptismal font from 1686. The village nestles idyllically at the Nature Reserve Grninger Lake. Here rare birds and crawling animals are at home.Near the village is the "Grninger Spring", a pond spring surrounded by hornbeams and white willows. At the bordering game reserve one can watch fallow deer, sheep, goats and other native animals.
